AN EDUCATION (PG-13, Drama)
Last night I hit the local Landmark Theatre in Hillcrest. Mainly, I went there to avoid the Twilight Madness in the valley, but also because I wanted to catch the latest from Nick Hornsby. The name may sound familiar - he's responsible for "About A Boy" with Hugh Grant and "Hi-Fidelity" with John Cusak, among others.
"An Education" is a swanky movie set in Twickingham, England (near London), in 1961 right before the Beatles hit. According to Jenny, the main character (played perfectly by Carey Mulligan), things are BORING. She manages to liven things up a bit when she falls for an older man (Peter Sarsgaard - who's faabulous). If you like the TV show "Mad Men," you'll enjoy this movie. It's got a stong cast (Emma Thompson, Alfred Molina), gorgeous English and Parisian scenery, and a cocktail-party ready soundtrack. Check out the tracks "You Got Me Wrapped Around Your Little Finger," by Beth Rowley, and "Smoke without Fire," by Duffy. You'll be hearing them on the store's playlist soon!
